Champagne, Tacos, and Startup Profits

Inside the Bloom Dental Co. grand opening and the tactical moves that fueled a 5-month growth spurt.

Hey Fam!

This week, we sat down for a raw, open update with one of our favorite startup founders, Dr. Toni Torres of Bloom Dental Co.

Toni gives insight to what it’s been like now that Bloom’s doors have been open for nearly 6 months!

1. Clinical & Financial Milestones

  • Profit Pivot: Bloom hit profitability in Month 3.

  • The $30k Tax Surprise: Toni shared the massive relief of receiving a $30,000 tax refund due to startup investment losses. This cash cushion is critical as she prioritizes business stability (2.5 months of expenses) before paying herself a salary.

  • Proactive Scheduling: Forget harsh cancellation fees. Toni’s team fills gaps by being transparent with patients about last-minute openings.

2. Inside the "Wedding-Style" Grand Opening

Toni’s advice for your "big day"? Go all out.

She created the grand opening of her dreams—feminine, high-energy, and community-focused. The event featured a build-your-own bouquet bar, a photo booth placed in an empty op, charcuterie, lemonade, and a local taco truck.

The result? 100+ guests and an immediate ROI, with Ari scheduling 8-9 new patients on the spot.

3. The "Community Question" Corner

Toni needs. your input on a critical insurance question. This is a common pain point for new offices, and we want to know what the legal right way is to handle it.

"If you are in-network, but an insurance provider doesn't cover a specific benefit (like adult sealants), are you contractually obligated to honor the insurance fee schedule, or can you charge your full UCR fee for that non-covered service?"
